About Adam

Adam Morfeld is an attorney that specializes in non-profit administration and development, governmental affairs, election law and policy, ballot initiatives, grassroots local and statewide issue and policy advocacy. He served as a Nebraska state senator for eight years until being term limited. He graduated from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln with an undergraduate degree in Political Science and from the University of Nebraska College of Law.

Before serving in the Legislature Adam managed a grocery store stockroom for several years and worked part-time for his local newspaper while attending community college. He then worked his way through college and law school at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

In 2008 Adam founded a non-profit that employs over 100 staff across the state in three offices that works to instill civic leadership skills in young Nebraskans, build civic health in our communities, and ensures our democracy is accessible to working Nebraskans, families and seniors. Adam served as Civic Nebraska’s Executive Director for sixteen years until 2024. He now advises major donors and helps build pro democracy infrastructure across Nebraska. In addition to his day job and legal practice, Adam teaches courses in constitutional law, public administration and American government at Nebraska Wesleyan University, and serves as the president of the Equality Legal Action Fund which is a national non-profit that fights extremism and disinformation.

In 2014 Adam was elected to the Nebraska Legislature to represent Northeast Lincoln, winning 68 percent of the vote. He was re-elected in 2018 to a second term. He serves on the Education and Judiciary Committees where he focuses his legislative work on criminal justice issues and school policy. In addition to his extensive work on criminal justice issues, Senator Morfeld introduced and passed into law over dozens of pieces of legislation focused on ending surprise medical bills, protecting Nebraskans’ online privacy, providing protections to ensure people receive emergency treatment for drug and alcohol overdoses, and addressing sexual assault issues.

In addition to his legislative and civil society work, Adam has also helped lead the successful medical marijuana ballot initiative in 2024, the successful casino gaming initiative in 2020, and the successful medicaid expansion initiative in 2018.

In his free time, Adam enjoys volunteering, reading, working on his home, traveling, Husker football, spending time with his beagle/dachshund Lily, running, and the outdoors.
